Neha Dhupia recently spoke out about the scrutiny she faced for being pregnant before her marriage to Angad Bedi, describing the public’s reaction as “ridiculous.” In an interview, the actress recalled the chatter surrounding her 2018 wedding, when she welcomed her daughter, Mehr, just six months after tying the knot. “The biggest conversation around my wedding with Angad Bedi was, ‘How did the baby come in six months?’” Dhupia said, addressing the persistent questions about her pregnancy timeline.
Dhupia noted that such criticism is not unique to her, pointing out that actresses like Neena Gupta and Alia Bhatt have faced similar public judgment. Gupta welcomed her daughter, Masaba, with cricketer Vivian Richards, while Bhatt, who began dating Ranbir Kapoor in 2018, married him in April 2022 and welcomed their daughter, Raha, in November of the same year. Dhupia humorously remarked, “At least, I’m on the same list as Neena Gupta and Alia Bhatt,” but emphasized that such scrutiny is unwarranted.
The backlash Dhupia faced inspired her to launch Freedom to Feed, an initiative focused on fostering open conversations about pregnancy, breastfeeding, and postpartum recovery. “We need to normalize discussions around women’s health instead of treating them as taboo,” she told. Dhupia stressed the importance of raising awareness, debunking myths, and supporting women through their motherhood journeys. “These subjects should not be swept under the rug. If I’m being trolled for talking about things that affect half the population, then so be it. I’m not going to stop,” she added.
Through Freedom to Feed, Dhupia aims to create a stigma-free space for women to share their experiences. The platform reflects her commitment to challenging societal norms and advocating for maternal health, turning personal criticism into a catalyst for positive change.
