Ajay Devgn to Reprise Vijay Salgaonkar in ‘Drishyam 3’ Amid Competition Concerns

Panorama Studios has officially confirmed the production of Drishyam 3, with Ajay Devgn set to return as the cunning Vijay Salgaonkar. The announcement, filed with the Bombay Stock Exchange on May 29, 2025, under Regulation 30 of SEBI’s Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements, quells earlier speculation about the Hindi version’s future due to a potential clash with the Malayalam original starring Mohanlal, which is slated for a pan-India release, including in Hindi.
Concerns arose when reports indicated that the Mohanlal-led Drishyam 3, directed by Jeethu Joseph, might be dubbed in Hindi for a nationwide release. This raised questions about whether audiences would embrace a Hindi remake if the original were available in the same language, potentially creating stiff competition for Devgn’s version. Despite these uncertainties, Panorama Studios has moved forward with the project, with Abhishek Pathak returning as director after helming the successful Drishyam 2 in 2022.
The Drishyam franchise has become a cultural phenomenon, with the first two Hindi films, released in 2015 and 2022, achieving significant box-office success and embedding themselves in pop culture, particularly through references to Vijay Salgaonkar’s meticulous October 2 alibi. Both films featured Tabu as Meera Deshmukh, Vijay’s adversary, and while her return for the third installment is likely, no official confirmation has been provided. Drishyam 2 also starred Akshaye Khanna, adding to the franchise’s star power.
The confirmation of Drishyam 3 comes on the heels of Ajay Devgn addressing the project at the trailer launch of his film Maa in Mumbai on May 29, 2025. Fans of the Hindi franchise are expected to be thrilled, given the series’ track record of delivering gripping narratives and strong performances.
