Katrina Kaif on Body-Shaming Trolls: ‘You Have to Be Your Own Cheerleader’

Actor Katrina Kaif has spoken about handling critical comments on her appearance on social media, stressing the need to protect one’s self-worth from online narratives.

She made the remarks on Thursday at an event in London marking the first-year anniversary of her cosmetics brand, Kay By Katrina, in partnership with Space NK. Without directly referring to recent online criticism, she said she does not allow such remarks to shape her daily decisions or sense of value.

“I think we really need to be careful in letting the narrative on social media affect our self-worth. If we start trying to cater to all of them, I think that really hampers your ability to make choices for yourself,” she said. “Personally, if every time I face critique or comments, I let that dictate my actions, I think I would have been paralysed with fear and unable to move ahead in my life.”

Later in the event she added, “There are times when the world is going to celebrate you and other times when you have to be your own biggest cheerleader.”

Katrina linked the idea to her brand’s tagline, “It’s kay to be you.” She explained that it is about accepting yourself as you are in the moment, recognising that different phases of life bring varying levels of confidence and appearance, and choosing to wear those experiences lightly without taking oneself too seriously.

The comments come weeks after she faced a wave of body-shaming remarks online following her appearance at the Ambani family’s Ganpati celebrations. She had given birth to her son Vihaan in November 2025. Some colleagues in the industry had publicly supported her at the time.
