The highly popular Malayalam thriller series will return for a new chapter, according to producer Antony Perumbavoor’s official announcement of Drishyam 4. Mohanlal and director Jeethu Joseph were present when the revelation was made at the Mazhavil Manorama Awards, sparking new conjecture about the future of Georgekutty’s story.
Fans should rejoice at the news, but there’s a crucial warning: the fourth movie seems to be a confirmation at the franchise level rather than a complete production announcement. The actor list, storyline details, release date, filming schedule, and even confirmation that the script is finished have not yet been disclosed.
Georgekutty, played by Mohanlal, became one of the most iconic characters in modern Indian film after the first Drishyam was released in 2013. After a crime invaded his family’s life, Georgekutty, a cable TV operator with an obsession with movies, used his understanding of crime storylines and his unsettling ability to stay several steps ahead to defend them.
Due to its popularity, Drishyam 2 and Drishyam 3 were produced. The universe grew from a small-scale family survival story to a more expansive game of cat and mouse involving the police, long-forgotten secrets, and the cost of living a lie.
The Drishyam phenomenon actually spread well beyond Malayalam film, as evidenced by the popularity of its Hindi adaptations, which starred Ajay Devgn as Vijay Salgaonkar.
However, Jeethu has never made the simple commercial decision to start a new chapter. The director had stated after Drishyam 3 that he could not guaranty a fourth film until he had a compelling enough concept to support continuing Georgekutty’s trip. Additionally, he had stated that he did not want to continue extending the franchise in the absence of a strong justification.
Additionally, Drishyam 3 gave audiences enough to discuss. The personas portrayed by Siddique and Asha Sharath in the film’s post-credit development were intended to make viewers wonder if their purpose had actually been accomplished. According to Jeethu, the scene was moved to the end credits since it had a different effect there.
Is it possible that Part 4 will begin with that thread? It’s too soon to tell. However, it does open the way for Georgekutty to take on a new task.
Although neither actor has yet to officially reveal specifics regarding the movie, Mohanlal is anticipated to reprise his role as Georgekutty, while Jeethu is anticipated to lead the next chapter.
In addition to a recurring cast that has included Asha Sharath, Siddique, Murali Gopy, and Kalabhavan Shajohn, the franchise has regularly featured Meena, Ansiba Hassan, and Esther Anil as Georgekutty’s family. Other than Mohanlal, no cast members have been officially confirmed to return for Drishyam 4.
For the time being, the confirmation is sufficient to rekindle interest in one of the most enduring thriller franchises in Malayalam film. Georgekutty has endured years of mistrust. It’s still unclear if he can make it through one more round.
