Yuzvendra Denies Dhanashree’s Accusations: ‘As an Athlete, Cheating…

New Delhi: In a pointed response to allegations leveled by his former spouse, Dhanashree Verma, Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal has dismissed claims of infidelity during their brief marriage, emphasizing his commitment to integrity as a professional athlete. The exchange, unfolding amid ongoing media scrutiny, highlights the lingering tensions following their high-profile separation earlier this year.

The controversy reignited last week when Verma, appearing on the reality series Rise And Fall, shared a revealing anecdote during a discussion moderated by actress Kubbra Sait. When pressed on the moment she sensed her relationship with Chahal was irreparably damaged, Verma replied candidly: “First year. Caught him in the second month.” Her statement implied that she had uncovered evidence of Chahal’s extramarital involvement early in their union, sparking widespread speculation across social platforms and entertainment outlets.

Chahal, 35, addressed the matter directly in an interview, where he categorically refuted the accusations while expressing frustration at the persistence of such narratives. “I am a sportsperson and I do not cheat,” he stated firmly. “If someone were to cheat within just two months, could the relationship have lasted as long as it did? For me, this chapter is closed done and dusted. I’ve moved on with my life, and others should do the same.”

Reflecting on the four-and-a-half-year marriage, Chahal questioned the logic behind the timeline of the alleged betrayal. “Our marriage lasted 4.5 years. If cheating had occurred in the second month, who would have continued? I’ve said before that I’ve left the past behind. But some people remain fixated on it. Their lives still revolve around my name, so they can keep doing that if they wish. It doesn’t affect me anymore, and I sense this is the final time I’ll speak on it.”

He further underscored his resolve to disengage from the drama, noting the transient nature of online discourse. “I’ve forgotten this chapter entirely. People say whatever they want, and it spreads on social media. A hundred rumors circulate, but the truth is singular—and those who truly matter know it. For me, it’s over. I won’t revisit it again. My focus is on my life and my cricket.”

The couple’s divorce proceedings, initiated by mutual consent, came to a close on March 20, 2025, after 18 months of separation. They had been photographed outside Mumbai’s Bandra Family Court in February, seeking to expedite the process by waiving the mandatory six-month cooling-off period—a request the court ultimately rejected.

Verma, meanwhile, has continued to draw attention through her participation in Rise And Fall, where she has also spoken about supporting Chahal unconditionally in the past, even when she later regretted it. The revelations have kept the pair in the headlines, underscoring the challenges of public breakups in the spotlight.

As Chahal prepares for upcoming matches, his comments signal a deliberate pivot toward professional priorities, leaving the personal saga behind.
