Dhanashree Verma Slams Alimony Myths, Faces Backlash Over ‘Wrong’ Label

New Delhi: Months after reports surfaced of a staggering Rs 60 crore alimony demand in her split from cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal, Dhanashree Verma has finally addressed the swirling gossip head-on. In a candid segment on the podcast Rise & Fall, the influencer and dentist dismissed the claims as entirely fabricated, revealing the emotional toll of public scrutiny.

The couple’s romance blossomed swiftly, evolving from a six- to seven-month courtship into marriage, followed by four years of wedded life before their separation. Reflecting on the rapid progression, Verma explained during her chat with host Aditya Narayan that the mutual decision to wed made later narratives around financial settlements particularly misguided. “It happened quickly because it was mutual; that is why when people talk about alimony, it is wrong,” she stated, underscoring her frustration with the unfounded chatter.

Verma elaborated on her reluctance to engage with detractors, crediting her upbringing for her selective responses. “Just because I am not saying anything, you will go on making things up? My parents have taught me to justify myself only to those I care about. Why waste time explaining to people who do not even know you?” she remarked. Pressed further on the persistent alimony buzz, she admitted its sting: “Eventually, you get hurt when you see that happening. It was not needed. None of it is true. I felt worse wondering why he did it. It is okay; I will always keep his respect that is what I believe in. Now, I do not think I can date anybody.”

The episode’s release has ignited a firestorm online, with Verma’s characterization of alimony discussions as “wrong” drawing sharp rebukes. Social media users accused her of hypocrisy and naivety. One commenter quipped, “Dhanashree built her career on divorce and alimony talk. Now she knows the real drawbacks of seeking alimony.” Another jabbed, “Dhanashree’s whole career is surviving on the divorce and alimony topic.” A third piled on: “How is she so dumb? She thinks what she has taken from Chahal is not alimony.”

This isn’t the first time the family has pushed back against the rumors. Earlier, following the August media frenzy, Dhanashree’s relatives released a firm denial. “We are deeply outraged by the baseless claims being circulated about the alimony figure. Let me be absolutely clear: such an amount has never been asked, demanded, or even offered. There is no truth to these rumours whatsoever,” the statement read. It went on to condemn the press: “It is deeply irresponsible to publish such unverified information, dragging not just the parties but also their families into unnecessary speculation. Reckless reporting like this only causes harm, and we urge the media to exercise restraint, fact-check before spreading misinformation, and respect everyone’s privacy.”

Verma’s unfiltered disclosures highlight the raw underbelly of celebrity breakups, where personal pain collides with viral speculation. While she maintains unwavering respect for her ex-husband, the online vitriol suggests her words have only fueled the debate, leaving observers to ponder the fine line between privacy and public fascination in the age of social media.
