Akshay Kumar’s Horror-Comedy ‘Bhooth Bangla’ Surges on Day 2

The Akshay Kumar-starrer horror-comedy Bhooth Bangla, directed by Priyadarshan, delivered a robust performance on its second day at the box office, recording a significant jump in collections and building strong momentum heading into the weekend.

After a solid opening, the film saw a nearly 50% increase in earnings on Saturday. According to reports, Bhooth Bangla collected around ₹19 crore net in India on day 2, following ₹12.25 crore net on its first day (Friday). Including paid previews of ₹3.50 crore, the domestic net tally after two days stands at approximately ₹35 crore, translating to a gross of about ₹42 crore in India.

The movie opened to decent paid previews and benefited from positive word-of-mouth, which helped occupancy improve markedly from morning to evening shows on day 1. Saturday witnessed healthier footfalls across shows, reflecting growing audience interest in this horror-comedy blend.

Overseas markets also contributed substantially on day 2, with the film earning about $1 million (roughly ₹9 crore gross). This pushed the worldwide gross collection to an impressive ₹60 crore in just two days. Industry observers note that a strong Sunday could propel the film past the ₹100-crore mark over the opening weekend.

With this performance, Bhooth Bangla has rapidly climbed the ranks to become the fifth highest-grossing Hindi film of the year so far. It has surpassed the lifetime worldwide gross of The Kerala Story 2 (₹48 crore) and the Telugu-Hindi bilingual Dacoit (₹50 crore). The film is expected to secure the third spot by the end of Sunday, moving ahead of titles such as O’Romeo and Mardaani 3.

Bhooth Bangla marks Priyadarshan’s return to Hindi cinema after a five-year hiatus and his first collaboration with Akshay Kumar in 14 years. The ensemble cast includes Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, and Mithila Palkar. The film released on April 17, following paid previews the previous evening.
