Social Media Star Apoorva Mukhija Leaves Mumbai Home After India’s Got Latent Backlash

Social media influencer Apoorva Mukhija, widely known as The Rebel Kid, has reportedly vacated her Mumbai apartment following intense backlash from her appearance on the controversial YouTube show India’s Got Latent. The move, hinted at through a cryptic Instagram Stories post, comes less than a year after she settled into the flat with friends.

The controversy erupted in February 2025 when Mukhija appeared as a panelist on the show, hosted by comedian Samay Raina. A remark by fellow panelist Ranveer Allahbadia, asking a contestant, “Would you rather watch your parents have sex for the rest of your life, or would you join in once and stop it forever?” sparked widespread outrage for its offensive nature. Mukhija’s own comments also drew criticism, leading to significant online harassment, including rape and death threats.

In response to the backlash, Mukhija faced legal repercussions, with multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) filed against her, Allahbadia, Raina, and others in Mumbai and Assam. She recorded her statement with the Mumbai Police in February, describing the experience as “dehumanising” due to media scrutiny, and later appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW) in March, where she submitted a written apology.

The influencer wiped her Instagram clean in April, a move that initially puzzled her three million followers, before making an emotional comeback with posts detailing the threats she received. In one Instagram post, she shared screenshots of abusive messages, captioning them, “And that’s not even 1%,” and urged, “Don’t take away the story from the storyteller,”. Mukhija also revealed in a YouTube video that her manager advised her to avoid returning home due to safety concerns, as some individuals claimed to know her address.

Her recent Instagram Stories post, described as a short video suggesting she had moved out, was captioned with a reflective note about the “end of an era,”. It remains unclear whether Mukhija has relocated within Mumbai or left the city entirely.

The India’s Got Latent controversy led to the removal of all episodes from Raina’s YouTube channel following a government notice, with the NCW and public figures condemning the panelists’ remarks as “simply not acceptable. Mukhija’s departure from her Mumbai home marks another chapter in the ongoing fallout from the scandal.
