Apara Mehta, a seasoned TV actress best known for her role as Savita Mansukh Virani in Ekta Kapoor’s classic series Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, has talked candidly about her long-standing split from actor and spouse Darshan Jariwala.
In an interview with Hauterrfly, the actress explained why they never decided to formally dissolve their marriage while recalling the tragic exchange that resulted in the couple living apart.
Apara Mehta disclosed that the discussion took place following her return from her performances in the United States. On their wedding anniversary, she remembered getting a call from Darshan. “I was in the United States. I called him on the anniversary of our marriage. “We really need to talk,” he remarked. “What does he want to talk about?” I wondered. Darshan said he didn’t want to carry on with the marriage after going back to India.
“I just went for my shoot in the morning as he was enjoying a cup of tea while sitting on the swing. That day, I had three important moments to film. I kept falling asleep in between takes because I had returned from the USA at five in the morning. When I regained consciousness later that afternoon, I asked myself, “What did Darshan just say?” He couldn’t have meant it.
The actress went on to say that although Darshan eventually moved out of their house, they have remained close over the years.
“After that, he simply left the house one day. We still call it home. He is no longer there. The doors are open at all times. He is able to return. I am aware that he might not, though. He will never find someone like me, and I will never find someone like him, I assure you. Yes, even though we live apart, we get along really well. We are still able to finish each other’s sentences.”
