Mumbai: As concerns over a domestic LPG shortage continue to grip the country amid the ongoing Iran-US-Israel war, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has weighed in on the issue sharing that his wife, Twinkle Khanna, has already taken precautionary steps by ordering two induction stoves.
Akshay Kumar Speaks Out at BMC Event in Mumbai
On Tuesday, March 17, Kumar attended a press conference at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters in Mumbai, where Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani launched the Mumbai Clean League initiative. On the sidelines, the actor opened up about the LPG situation.
“So my wife day before yesterday. See abhi tak toh nahi hai problem koi. Lekin, what is that another oven which has come, induction kind of a thing, toh do kharide. Toh aap bhi khareed lijiye,” Kumar told the media roughly translating to: he hasn’t personally faced any shortage yet, but his wife has purchased two induction stoves as a precaution and he urged others to consider doing the same.
Government Flags LPG Situation as ‘Concerning’
The actor’s remarks come in the backdrop of a recent inter-ministerial briefing, where Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, acknowledged the gravity of the situation. “LPG situation is concerning,” she stated, adding, “Regarding natural gas, as I told you, the Government of India is making efforts, and it would be beneficial if all commercial LPG consumers shifted to PNG.”
Kumar Appeals to Mumbaikars on Cleanliness Drive
Beyond the LPG conversation, Kumar also used the platform to appeal to citizens to actively participate in the Mumbai Clean League. Disclosing that he had come straight from a shoot, the actor said, “I took time out from shooting today to come here because this issue is important. We need to move forward with a positive mindset.”
He further added, “This can change a lot. We always depend on the BMC for cleanliness, but as citizens, what do we do? Now the time has come for citizens to act.”
