Beloved Bollywood Actor Mukul Dev Passes Away at 54

Mukul Dev, a versatile actor known for his work in Hindi, Punjabi, and South Indian films, as well as television, has died at the age of 54. The news of his passing was confirmed by several sources, where actor Vindu Dara Singh shared details about Dev’s final days. According to Singh, Dev had become increasingly reclusive following the death of his parents, rarely leaving his home or meeting others. His health declined in the days leading up to his death, resulting in his hospitalization. “My condolences to his brother and everyone who knew and loved him. He was an amazing person, and we will all miss him,” Singh told India Today.
Dev’s career spanned over two decades, with notable roles in films such as Yamla Pagla Deewana, Son of Sardaar, R… Rajkumar, and Jai Ho. He made his acting debut in 1996 with Dastak, a film that also marked the Bollywood debut of former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen. Dev reflected on his 25-year journey in the industry, describing it as fulfilling and expressing satisfaction with his diverse roles across Hindi films, regional cinema, and television. “Even if I want to, I cannot complain,” he said, noting that he had carved a unique space for himself in the competitive industry.
A graduate of St. Columba’s School in Delhi, Dev also held a certificate in aeronautics from the Indira Gandhi Institute of Aviation in Raebareli. His friend and fellow actor Deepshikha Nagpal expressed her shock at his passing, telling that she was unaware of any health issues Dev may have faced. The cause of his death remains undisclosed, and an official statement from his family is still awaited.
Vindu Dara Singh paid tribute to Dev on social media, writing, “Rest in peace my brother #MukulDev! The time spent with you will always be cherished and #SonOfSardaar2 will be your swansong where you will spread joy and happiness to the viewers and make them fall down laughing!” Dev’s contributions to Indian cinema and television leave a lasting legacy, and his sudden departure has left colleagues and fans mourning the loss of a talented performer.
