New Delhi: Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji were among the prominent winners at the 71st National Film Awards ceremony held on Tuesday. Shah Rukh Khan received the Best Actor award for his role in Jawan, while Rani Mukerji was honoured with the Best Actress award for her performance in Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway.
Following the announcement of the awards last month, Shah Rukh Khan expressed his gratitude in a social media video, stating, “Thank you for honouring me with the National Award. Thanks to the jury and the I&B Ministry.” He described feeling “overwhelmed with gratitude, pride, and humility,” adding that the recognition was a moment he would “cherish for a lifetime.”
Rani Mukerji, celebrating her first National Award in a three-decade-long career, acknowledged the significance of the honour. In a statement, she said, “This recognition means a lot,” and extended her thanks to the jury, producers Nikkhil Advani, Monisha and Madhu, director Ashima Chibber, and the entire team of the film.
The ceremony also recognized other Bollywood personalities, including Vikrant Massey and Karan Johar. Vaibhavi Merchant won the award for Best Choreography for the song Dhindora from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.

“History has been created Shah Rukh Khan ji, the man whose smile transcends borders, whose dialogues have become part of our shared vocabulary, receives his first National Award,” Jaju said. Praising Shah Rukh’s journey from Delhi theatre to global recognition, he added, “In Jawan, he asked, ‘Main kaun hu, main kya hu (Who am I, what am I?).’ Tonight, the answer is simple he is not just a National Award winner, he remains the king of hearts.”
As the hall cheered, Shah Rukh smiled, blushed, and blew a kiss towards Jaju. Sitting next to him, actress Rani Mukerji was seen smiling warmly. The actor looked dashing in a black suit, debuting a salt-and-pepper look, pairing it with dark sunglasses which he removed respectfully during the National Anthem.
