No Entry Without Confirmed Tickets at 12 Mumbai & Gujarat Stations?

Ahmedabad: Currently, anyone can easily enter railway stations, but this may soon change. Important stations in Mumbai and Gujarat could implement an access control system similar to metros, where only passengers with scanned tickets will be allowed entry. The Western Railway has proposed this plan to the Railway Board for 12 key stations.

Which Mumbai Stations Are Included?

The list includes Borivali, Andheri, and Bandra Terminus. Borivali and Bandra Terminus serve Gujarat-bound trains, while Andheri is a major hub for Western Line local trains and metro connectivity.

Which Gujarat Stations Are Included?

Gujarat stations like Ahmedabad’s Kalupur, Asarva, Sabarmati, Vadodara, Surat, Vapi, and Udhna are part of the proposal. Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh has also been suggested. The move aims to reduce overcrowding, especially after past stampede incidents at stations like Udhna.

What Changes Will Be Made?

A railway official stated that the plan is still in early stages. If approved, infrastructure upgrades like entry/exit gates with ticket scanners will be installed. Only passengers with valid tickets will be allowed in, improving safety, cleanliness, and crowd control.

Currently, during peak rush, platforms often face chaos, leading to temporary bans on platform tickets. The new system could eliminate such ad-hoc measures.
