Indian-Origin Startup Founder Fatally Stabbed on Texas Bus

A 30-year-old Indian-origin entrepreneur, Akshay Gupta, was killed in a shocking attack aboard a public bus in Austin, Texas, on May 14, as reported by Business Standard. Gupta, who co-founded a health startup, was fatally stabbed by a fellow Indian passenger, 31-year-old Deepak Kandel, in an apparently unprovoked assault.

According to KXAN, security footage captured Gupta seated at the rear of the bus, looking down and not engaging with others, when Kandel, seated beside him, abruptly raised a butcher-style knife and struck him in the neck. The bus driver stopped the vehicle after the incident, and Kandel fled the scene along with other passengers. Business Standard noted that Kandel later admitted to the crime, claiming he attacked Gupta because he resembled his uncle. Authorities have apprehended Kandel in connection with the murder.
