Religious Leader Confronts Officials at Chandola Lake Clearance

Ahmedabad: Tensions escalated during the second phase of the Chandola Lake anti-encroachment operation on Monday when a local Maulana confronted police and municipal corporation officials at the demolition site.

The incident occurred as authorities arrived to remove unauthorized structures near the lake area as part of their ongoing clearance campaign. The situation became heated when the religious leader strongly objected to the demolition of a structure he claimed was associated with a mosque.

In a passionate declaration that heightened the already tense atmosphere, the Maulana proclaimed, “We will die for the mosque,” leading to a standoff between officials and local residents.

According to witnesses at the scene, what began as a verbal disagreement quickly intensified, with members of the surrounding community gathering to protest the demolition efforts. Police personnel present at the location worked to control the crowd and facilitate communication between the Maulana and municipal authorities to prevent further escalation.

Representatives from the civic body defended their actions, stating that all structures slated for removal were unauthorized and had received proper notification before the operation commenced.

At the time this report was filed, no arrests had been made in connection with the incident. However, sources indicated that administrative officials are maintaining vigilant surveillance of the area to prevent any additional disturbances.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is proceeding with its multi-phase demolition plan, with further developments expected as the operation continues.
