In a separate incident on May 12, a major fire broke out at a clothing store on Peddar Road in South Mumbai, causing significant property damage.

Firefighters safely evacuated 19 people trapped by smoke on the building’s terrace, along with two dogs and a cat. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, as the blaze started when the showroom was closed.

Divisional Fire Officer E.B. Matle stated that the fire began around 6:30 AM at Riyaz Ganji showroom. “The entire stock, including garments, wooden partitions, and electrical wiring, was destroyed,” he said.

Fire crews forced entry through a rear door and used four water lines to extinguish the flames. Maharashtra Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, who visited the site, emphasized the challenges faced by residents, particularly senior citizens, as the building remained waterlogged and without power.

Lodha told ANI, “Authorities are working to drain the water and determine the fire’s cause to prevent future incidents.”
