Karan Johar Expresses Concern Over Babil Khan’s Emotional Outburst

Mumbai : Filmmaker Karan Johar recently shared his empathy for actor Babil Khan following a widely circulated social media video that captured the young star in distress. Speaking to Galatta Plus, Johar revealed his personal reaction, stating, “I felt as bad as people did as a parent when I saw Babil’s meltdown. I felt terrible because I also have a son and a daughter.”
The video, which surfaced on Reddit on May 4 and quickly gained traction, showed Babil Khan visibly emotional, shedding tears while expressing feelings of isolation within the film industry. In the clip, he referenced several colleagues, including Shanaya Kapoor, Ananya Panday, Arjun Kapoor, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Raghav Juyal, Adarsh Gourav, and Arijit Singh, sparking curiosity among fans. Khan was heard describing Bollywood as “rude” and “f***ed,” though he also acknowledged individuals he believed were striving to improve the industry.
Following the video’s viral spread, speculation arose about Khan’s relationships with the named actors. In response, Khan’s family and team issued a joint statement to clarify the context, emphasizing that the video had been “widely misinterpreted.” The statement noted, “Over the past few years, Babil Khan has earned immense love and appreciation for his work, as well as for his openness about his mental health journey. Like anyone else, Babil is allowed to have difficult days and this was one of them.” It further explained that Khan’s mention of his peers was rooted in admiration for their contributions to Indian cinema, not criticism.
Khan, the son of the late actor Irrfan Khan, subsequently deleted the video and deactivated his Instagram account. His family reassured fans that he was safe and recovering, addressing concerns about his well-being. The incident has prompted discussions about the pressures faced by young actors in Bollywood.
