Rajkot International Airport Resumes Operations From Today Amid Easing Indo-Pak Tensions

Rajkot: Rajkot International Airport, also known as Hirasar Airport, reopened today, two days ahead of schedule. The annoucement follows the recent de-escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan after the execution of Operation Sindoor.

Originally slated to remain closed till May 14 for civilian flights, the airport resumed passenger flight services earlier than expected after aviation authorities granted clearance in light of the improving situation along the border. Flight operations are set to resume as per their regular schedules as airlines like IndiGo and Air India begin accepting bookings.

The airport had been shut down from May 7 as a precaution following cross-border airstrikes. Alongside Rajkot, several other airports in Gujarat, including Bhuj, Kandla, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Naliya, Mundra, and Keshod, were also temporarily closed.

The closure had impacted over 3,200 passengers daily, as 10 flights from Rajkot, mostly operated by IndiGo and Air India, were suspended. These included routes to Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Goa, forcing travelers to rely on road and rail alternatives. With the green light now given for passenger services, travelers can finally breathe a sigh of relief as normalcy begins to return to the region’s air traffic.
