Tensions Ease At India Pakistan Border, But Precautionary Blackouts Continue In Parts Of Gujarat

Kutch: In the aftermath of the recent easing of tensions between India and Pakistan, normalcy is gradually returning to Gujarat’s border districts. However, local administrations remain on alert, with precautionary blackouts and security protocols still in effect in select areas.

On the night of May 11, a full blackout was implemented in the coastal town of Dwarka as a preventive measure. Authorities ordered all residential lights turned off after sunset, and even the famous Dwarkadhish temple was closed to visitors by 7 PM. The district administration also banned the use of inverters and generators during the night, urging residents to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary. Local businesses were encouraged to shut down operations by 8 PM and to keep storefront lights switched off. The blackout will continue daily from sunset to sunrise until further notice.

In contrast, towns like Bhuj, Gandhidham, Anjar, and Bhachau in Kutch district witnessed partial precautions, such as the shutdown of streetlights, but public transport and day-to-day activities remained unaffected. Meanwhile, district collectors in Banaskantha, Jamnagar, and parts of Kutch confirmed that no blackout orders had been issued in those regions.

Despite the heightened alert, essential services remain fully operational. According to Bhuj Railway Superintendent K.K. Sharma, all trains to and from Bhuj and Gandhidham are running on schedule. Government offices and administrative functions are also continuing without interruption.

Notably, on May 12, Bhuj cybercrime officials arrested a local youth for allegedly sharing pro-Pakistan content on social media, a move that raised concerns amidst the tense cross-border situation. Authorities have warned the public against spreading provocative or misleading information online. Local officials have urged citizens to remain calm, avoid rumors, and cooperate with any safety advisories issued by authorities.
