Rajasthan: Jaisalmer Imposes Overnight Blackout Amid Security Concerns After Missile Debris Discovery

Jaisalmer: The district administration has ordered a full blackout from 7:30 pm on May 12 until 6 am on May 13 as a precautionary security measure. Residents have been asked to switch off all lights inside and outside their homes during this period.

The directive, issued amid heightened tension following the discovery of suspected Pakistani missile fragments in Pokhran, prohibits vehicle movement including two-, three-, and four-wheelers during blackout hours. A 5-kilometre buffer zone has also been created around sensitive defence areas, with warnings of strict legal action for any suspicious activity.

Drone operations and the use of firecrackers have been completely banned across the district. Travellers on the Ramgarh-Tanot Road have been advised to complete their journeys by 3 pm, as access will be restricted afterward.

Jaisalmer Superintendent of Police Sudhir Choudhary reported earlier in the day that ammunition and suspicious items had been recovered from several locations. He urged the public to avoid approaching or photographing any such items and to immediately inform the police. “Do not circulate images or videos on social media,” he warned, adding that the situation remains mostly under control.

On Saturday, debris from a large Pakistani missile was found and neutralized by Indian armed forces in Pokhran, prompting these heightened security measures.

Authorities have requested the public and media to refrain from disclosing the locations of any such finds. In case of discovery, the public is instructed to stay at least 100 meters away, avoid touching or recording the object, and report it to the Police Control Room.

Officials emphasized that false or misleading posts on social media could result in strict legal consequences. The administration has called for full cooperation, stressing that all measures are in place to safeguard national security and ensure public safety.
