Operation Sindoor : Borders Sealed, Missiles Ready: Rajasthan, Punjab Alert

In response to escalating tensions with Pakistan following India’s military operation, Rajasthan has sealed its border with the neighboring country, and Punjab has canceled leaves for its police force. The measures come after India conducted Operation Sindoor, a series of precision missile strikes targeting nine terrorist sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), in retaliation for a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, last month that claimed 26 lives.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma convened a high-level meeting to assess the state’s security arrangements, particularly in districts such as Ganganagar, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, and Barmer, which share a border with Pakistan. Special directives have been issued to local authorities to heighten vigilance. In Jaisalmer, a blackout was enforced from midnight to 4 a.m., with police patrolling to ensure residents remained indoors and lights were switched off. Jaisalmer police also conducted public awareness campaigns to enforce compliance with the blackout.
In Punjab, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav ordered the cancellation of all police personnel leaves and mandated their presence at headquarters to ensure robust security, especially in border regions. This follows a large-scale civil defense mock drill conducted in Amritsar on Wednesday evening, prompted by the heightened India-Pakistan tensions post-Operation Sindoor.
The Kartarpur Corridor, connecting the Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district to the Darbar Sahib gurdwara in Pakistan, was temporarily closed on Wednesday due to the ongoing situation, further underscoring the gravity of the security measures in place.
