Unseasonal Rains Claim 14 Lives In Gujarat, Strong Winds Cause Extensive Damage

Trees And Hoardings Get Uprooted In Several Places

Since the last two days, Gujarat’s weather has changed significantly. In the month of May, strong winds are blowing, along with rainfall and thunderstorms. Moreover, some places are also experiencing hailstorms. Amidst this, 14 people have died in the state in the last 24 hours, including 4 women and 10 men. 4 people have died in Kheda district, 3 in Vadodara, 2 each in Ahmedabad, Aravalli, and Dahod, and 1 person in Anand. On the other hand, 16 incidents of injury have taken place. In addition, 26 animals died and 7 incidents of damage to buildings were reported.

Several people died due to different reasons. Thakor Mangajibhai Kamshibhai was struck by lightning in Viramgam, Kaaliben Billo Vasava died by getting buried under a wall in Anand, Kipalben Kesarisinh Chavda was struck by a tree in Thasra, Patel Shakrabhai Shanabhai of Topani village in Devgadh Baria was struck by a tree, Sodha Maheshbhai Juwasinh of Paldi village in Nadiad was struck by a tree, Baraiya Ranjitsinh Budhabhai of Rudka village in Mahemdavad got buried under a house, Himanshu Kumar alias Chako Rajendrabhai Parmar of Jamalpur in Ahmedabad died as a hoarding fell on him, Damor Vishalkumar Deepakbhai of Dhadhasan village in Bhiloda was struck by lightning, Laljibhai Shankarbhai Gelot of Gorwada village in Bhiloda was struck by lightning, Labda Mangiben of Kuwabari village in Devgadh Baria was struck by a tree, Jayeshbhai More died of electrocution in Vadodara, Waliben Mohanbhai Bharwad of Sansoli village in Mahemdavad died due to the falling of roof-tiles, Parvat Dangar died of electrocution in Vadodara, and Girish Chaure died due to the falling of a hoarding in Vadodara.

Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds lashed the state on Monday evening and night, leaving several areas in a desolated condition. The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rains in 10 districts for today (Tuesday, May 6). In addition, along with rainfall, it is also predicted that hail and thunderstorm will also occur. Situations might worsen in Kutch and Banaskantha among other districts.

There are possibilities of strong winds blowing at the speed of 30 kilometers per hour. As of May 7 and May 8, rainfall along with strong winds blowing at 40 to 50 kilometers per hour is predicted. On Monday (May 5), several cities experienced strong winds accompanied by rainfall in the evening and at night. The winds caused extensive damage. Trees and hoardings got uprooted in many places.
