Shah Rukh Khan’s Met Gala Debut Sparks Buzz as Foreign Press Seeks Introduction

Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan made a historic entrance at the Met Gala on Monday, marking his first appearance at the prestigious fashion event held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. A viral video from the red carpet captured the global superstar introducing himself to international journalists, who appeared unfamiliar with his stature, prompting him to say, “I am Shah Rukh.”

Khan, one of the world’s most recognized film stars, donned a sophisticated black suit crafted by renowned Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherji. The ensemble, complemented by layered necklaces and a cane topped with a tiger head, aligned with the event’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” which celebrates the evolution of Black fashion and its cultural significance, inspired by Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion. In a Vogue red carpet interview, Khan and Mukherji discussed the outfit’s inspiration, with the designer noting that Khan’s fame nearly caused a frenzy outside their hotel due to eager fans.

When asked about his Met Gala debut, Khan admitted to feeling nervous, stating he was motivated to attend for his children. “I’m doing it all for my kids,” he told Vogue, revealing his initial apprehension about the high-profile event curated by Andrew Bolton.

The Met Gala, a fundraiser for the Costume Institute, showcased a strong Indian presence this year, with stars like Priyanka Chopra, Kiara Advani, and Diljit Dosanjh also in attendance. The event’s blue carpet, adorned with hand-painted daffodil prints from Kerala, India, added a cultural touch to the evening. Khan’s appearance, however, drew particular attention, with social media buzzing over his poised response to the press and his striking look, despite some fans expressing mixed reactions to the outfit’s design.
