Met Gala 2025: Shah Rukh Khan Becomes First Indian Male Actor To Grace The Iconic Carpet

In a landmark moment for Indian cinema and fashion, Shah Rukh Khan made his long-awaited debut at the Met Gala, becoming the first Indian male actor to walk the iconic red carpet of fashion’s biggest night. Held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, this year’s theme—“Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”—was interpreted by Khan in classic form, blending cultural pride with understated elegance.
Dressed by acclaimed Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Khan appeared in a floor-length black wool coat, paired with bold accessories including a crystal-encrusted “K” pendant and a bejeweled tiger-head cane. Staying true to his personal aesthetic, the actor revealed he had requested a look that aligned with his comfort zone. “I told Sabya I only wear black and white,” Khan shared during a conversation on Vogue’s livestream. “What we designed is what I’m most comfortable in. That’s how I think it should be.”
Mukherjee echoed the sentiment, saying the focus was on authentic representation. He shared, “When you get a man like this on the red carpet, especially when it’s ‘Black dandy,’ representation is the most important thing. We wanted to represent Shah Rukh Khan as Shah Rukh Khan, and nobody else.”
The 2025 Met Gala dress code, titled “Tailored For You,” encouraged guests to showcase personal interpretations of Black tailoring traditions through bespoke fashion. Khan’s grounded yet regal look stood out for its simplicity and symbolism.
Joining him on this historic night were fellow Indian celebrities making their first Met Gala appearances. Musician-actor Diljit Dosanjh captivated attention in a royal-inspired ensemble featuring a cape embroidered with the map of Punjab. The outfit, designed by Nepali-American fashion powerhouse Prabal Gurung, paid tribute to Dosanjh’s Punjabi roots while blending traditional craftsmanship with high fashion.
Bollywood star Kiara Advani also made her Met Gala debut, further establishing Indian representation at one of the most-watched global fashion events. As Indian cinema and style continue to gain international recognition, this year’s Met Gala marked not just a red carpet milestone but a cultural one—spotlighting South Asian artistry on the world’s most prestigious stage
