Gujarat Mobilizes 57,000 for Statewide Civil Defence Drill

In response to a directive from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Gujarat is set to conduct a large-scale civil defence mock drill on Wednesday, involving 57,000 volunteers and personnel across its major cities. The exercise follows the tragic April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives and heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, with the Indian government pointing to Pakistan’s involvement. Given Gujarat’s proximity to Pakistan, the state has been instructed to carry out these preparedness drills.

The operation will include 13,000 civil defence volunteers and 44,000 home guards, focusing on urban areas. The drill aims to enhance readiness for potential crises, ensuring coordinated responses among various agencies. This initiative underscores the state’s commitment to bolstering security measures in light of recent geopolitical developments.
