Virat Kohli Clarifies Instagram Mishap Amid Fan Speculation

Indian cricket star Virat Kohli addressed a wave of fan speculation on Friday after an accidental interaction on Instagram sparked rumors. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter issued a statement via his Instagram Stories, clarifying that a “like” on a fan page post featuring actress Avneet Kaur was unintentional, caused by an algorithm error while he was clearing his feed.

Kohli, who boasts 271 million Instagram followers, emphasized that there was “absolutely no intent” behind the action and urged fans to refrain from fueling unnecessary speculation. The clarification came after the mistaken “like” triggered a frenzy on social media, with some fans theorizing about the cricketer’s motives.

This is not the first time Kohli’s social media activity has stirred controversy. In April, he removed all promotional posts from his Instagram grid, relocating them to the reels section, a move he later described as a necessary “reset” for his online presence, according to a video posted on RCB’s YouTube channel. That decision also prompted speculation, with some suggesting it was a strategic shift to focus on his personal ventures.

The 36-year-old cricketer has been in strong form during the IPL 2025 season, amassing 392 runs, including five half-centuries, for RCB. His recent performances include a match-winning 47-ball 51 against Delhi Capitals, helping his team secure a top spot on the points table.

Kohli’s statement aims to quell the latest round of rumors, reinforcing his focus on cricket and his desire to avoid distractions from his massive online following
