Aftermath Of Pahalgam Terror Attack: Entry Banned On 21 Kutch Islands To Strengthen Security

Bhuj: With security being tightened across the country following the recent Pahalgam attack, the Kutch district administration has banned public entry to 21 uninhabited islands along Gujarat’s sensitive coastal border. The ban, which will remain in effect till July 26, 2025, is aimed at preventing anti-national and illegal activities in these remote and difficult-to-monitor areas.
Kutch, which shares a strategic coastline along the international border, is considered a highly sensitive district from a national security perspective. Several of the 21 islands listed in the ban are not only uninhabited but also secluded, making them vulnerable to being exploited by smugglers and individuals involved in anti-social or anti-national acts. These isolated spots could be misused to hide arms, narcotics, or provide refuge to unauthorized persons.
Some of the restricted locations also house religious sites that attract devotees during specific festivals. However, the administration has underlined the need to prioritize national security over such visits at this time.
District Collector Anand Patel issued the prohibition through a public notification under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023. The restriction, effective until June 26, 2025, bars civilian movement to the following islands: Shekharan Pir, Oghatra, Lunabet, Khadraipir, Syed Suleman Pir, Chhabhadiyo, Lun, Godhrai, Motapir, Hematlat, Haji Ibrahim, Khanana, Gopi Bet, Satori Bet, Bhakal Bet, Savla Pir, Sugar Bet, Pir Sanai, Boya Bet, Sethwara Bet, and Sat Saida.
Exemptions have been granted to personnel from security forces and government officials on duty. The order aims to preempt any misuse of these areas, reinforcing border vigilance and maintaining internal security. Authorities have appealed to the public to respect the restrictions in the interest of national safety, warning that violations will attract legal consequences.
