Western Railway to Halt Over 163 Trains for Bridge Upgrade

MUMBAI: Western Railway (WR) has announced the cancellation of more than 163 train services between April 26 and April 28, 2025, to facilitate critical bridge maintenance work. The disruptions will occur due to a 35-hour operational block between Kandivali and Borivali stations, aimed at upgrading Bridge No. 61.
According to a statement from WR, the block will commence at 1:00 PM on April 26 and conclude at midnight on April 27-28. During this period, 163 suburban trains will be fully canceled, with an additional 49 services partially canceled. Specific trains affected include 24 services between Churchgate and Borivali, 17 between Churchgate and Bhayandar, and 25 between Churchgate and Virar. Mail and express trains will also face cancellations and partial disruptions.

Vineet Abhishek, WR’s Chief Public Relations Officer, emphasized that the work involves re-girdering the bridge to enhance safety and efficiency. To mitigate commuter inconvenience, WR will operate special suburban trains during the block, including services from Borivali to Virar and Goregaon to Virar between 8:00 AM and 10:00 PM on April 27. Additionally, BEST and MSRTC buses will honor railway tickets to provide alternative transport options.

The WR statement noted that normal train operations are expected to resume by the morning of April 28. Commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly and check for updates through official WR channels.
