NEW DELHI: Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of the Indian cricket team and a former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) parliamentarian, has received a death threat attributed to “ISIS Kashmir,” according to a report. The alarming development led Gambhir to contact the Delhi Police on Wednesday, requesting urgent action to address the threat.
Gambhir formally submitted a complaint to the Rajinder Nagar Police Station and the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Central Delhi, urging authorities to register a First Information Report (FIR). He also called for enhanced security measures to protect himself and his family. The threat was delivered through two emails sent on April 22 one in the afternoon and another in the evening both containing the menacing message “IKillU,” as reported by officials.
This is not the first instance of Gambhir facing such intimidation. In November 2021, while serving as a Member of Parliament, he received a similar threatening email. The Delhi Police have initiated an investigation into the latest threat and are expected to implement necessary precautions to ensure the safety of Gambhir and his family, given the gravity of the situation.
The incident follows Gambhir’s public condemnation of a recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. On Tuesday, he expressed solidarity with the victims’ families via a post on X, describing the attack on tourists in Baisaran meadow as one of the deadliest since the 2019 Pulwama incident, which claimed 26 civilian lives.
