Salman Khan’s Maatrubhumi Gets Government Nod After Major Changes, November Release In Sight

Mumbai: Salman Khan’s long delayed war drama Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace has reportedly received a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, bringing the film a step closer to theatres. However, the movie still needs certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), meaning its reported November release is not confirmed yet.

The reported government clearance comes after the makers submitted a revised version of the film following substantial changes. The updated version is said to present India-China relations in a more positive light, according to reports.

The development could end months of uncertainty surrounding the project. The film was originally announced as Battle Of Galwan and is inspired by the June 2020 Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese troops. Salman Khan plays Colonel Santosh Babu, while Chitrangda Singh is also part of the cast. The film is directed by Apoorva Lakhia.

The project has undergone several changes since it was first announced. Its title was changed to Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace earlier this year. Reports have also indicated that portions of the film were altered and reshot amid concerns surrounding its portrayal of the India-China conflict.

Despite the reported government clearance, the film is not yet fully cleared for theatrical release. The revised version is expected to be submitted to the CBFC, which will decide on its certification.

If the certification process is completed in time, the makers are reportedly considering November 13 for the film’s theatrical release, shortly after Diwali. However, the date remains tentative and has not been officially announced.

Maatrubhumi was earlier scheduled for release in April 2026 before delays pushed the project into uncertainty. Its journey from Battle Of Galwan to its current title, coupled with the reported changes to the film, has kept the project in the spotlight.

For now, the CBFC certification remains the crucial next step. Until the certification is granted and the release date is officially confirmed, audiences will have to wait for Salman Khan’s return to the big screen in this military drama.
