Chennai: Actor turned politician Vijay’s wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, made a rare public appearance in Chennai on Friday as she arrived with their daughter, Divya Saasha, to watch an early show of their son Jason Sanjay’s directorial debut Sigma.
Sangeetha and Divya were spotted arriving at Kamala Cinemas, where the family gathered to mark a significant moment in Jason’s filmmaking journey. Sangeetha was seen smiling as photographers captured her arrival, while Divya accompanied her to the screening.
The appearance has drawn attention largely because Sangeetha has generally maintained a low profile and stays away from the intense public spotlight surrounding her husband. Vijay, one of Tamil cinema’s biggest stars before entering politics, has built a massive following over his decades long career, while his family has largely kept their personal lives away from the media.
Jason Sanjay, Vijay and Sangeetha’s son, has now stepped into the film industry from behind the camera. Sigma marks his debut as a director and stars Sundeep Kishan in the lead role, alongside Faria Abdullah. The film also features Sampath Raj, Raju Sundaram, Shiv Panditt, Anbu Thasan and Yog Japee.
The release represents a new chapter for the Vijay family, with Jason choosing filmmaking rather than following his father’s path as an actor. His debut has naturally generated interest because of his family background, but Jason has maintained that the film should be viewed on its own merits.
Vijay’s role in Jason’s debut has also been a subject of interest ahead of the release. Jason has spoken about his father’s approach to watching films, saying that Vijay takes time to analyse a movie before giving his opinion. Jason has also expressed his belief that his father would be proud of his first effort as a director.
While Vijay himself has remained away from the promotional spotlight surrounding Sigma, Sangeetha’s presence at the early screening offered a rare glimpse of the family coming together for Jason on an important day in his career.
For Vijay and Sangeetha, the occasion marked more than just another film release. It was the theatrical beginning of their son’s journey as a filmmaker a moment that brought one of Tamil cinema’s most closely watched families into the spotlight once again.
