Anant Chaturdashi 2026: Mumbai Braces for Ganpati Visarjan on Sept 25 With Tight Security, Traffic and Rail Curbs

With Anant Chaturdashi a day away, Mumbai is preparing for the city’s grand Ganpati visarjan on Friday, September 25. Extensive security arrangements, dedicated traffic routes and immersion facilities are being put in place across the city.
BMC and Traffic Police Detail Immersion Plan
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said on X that it and the Mumbai Traffic Police have drawn up a detailed traffic management plan for Ganesh idol immersion at Swarajya Bhoomi, better known as Girgaon Chowpatty. The BMC also posted a map showing the routes and arrangements around the immersion site, which is expected to draw massive crowds for the final Ganpati processions.
Devotees heading to Girgaon Chowpatty and other immersion locations have been asked to stick to designated routes and follow traffic instructions so that movement stays smooth.
Standing Committee Chairman Prabhakar Shinde visited Girgaon Chowpatty on Thursday to review preparations. He inspected the civic body’s arrangements for immersing both small and large Ganesh idols. He also looked at a special pavilion set up for foreign tourists and representatives of various countries’ embassies who are expected to watch Mumbai’s iconic visarjan. Shinde also reviewed details of the artificial ponds the BMC has created for idol immersion.
Over 22,000 Police Personnel to Be Deployed
Mumbai Police have made wide-ranging security arrangements for the last day of Ganeshotsav, when thousands of idols will be carried through the city’s streets for immersion. According to reports, over 22,000 police personnel will be deployed across Mumbai to maintain law and order and manage the crowds.
Companies of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) will add to the security cover. Quick Response Teams (QRTs) and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads (BDDS) will be stationed at strategic locations. Major immersion sites and procession routes are expected to remain under heightened security through the festivities.
Police Warn Against Parking Near Immersion Points
Authorities have also issued traffic instructions for the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) and other areas around immersion ghats. On immersion days, devotees often park vehicles near ghat entrances. Police have warned that this can cause severe congestion and may block emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire engines.

Motorists and devotees have been urged to avoid unauthorised parking and to follow the traffic restrictions and diversions announced for the visarjan.
Western Railway Issues Advisory
Thousands of devotees are expected to travel across Mumbai to watch the visarjan on September 25, and Western Railway has announced special arrangements to handle the heavy passenger rush.
As per the advisory, all AC local trains arriving at or leaving Churchgate after 7 pm on September 25 will run as non-AC services. Some suburban services will also be cancelled or short-terminated as part of crowd-management measures during the immersion processions. Passengers have been advised to check train schedules and plan their journeys accordingly.
Mumbai Set to Bid Farewell to Bappa
Anant Chaturdashi marks the end of Mumbai’s grand Ganeshotsav. Prominent Ganpati mandals and thousands of household idols are taken for immersion amid chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya, Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya.”
Girgaon Chowpatty remains one of the city’s biggest immersion sites and traditionally draws huge crowds for the final journey of prominent idols, including Lalbaugcha Raja.
Mumbai Police have appealed to citizens not to believe or spread rumours, and to alert authorities immediately if they notice any suspicious person, object or activity during the celebrations.
