Kavya Maran’s Favourite Pakistan Bowler, Who Flopped In The Hundred, Becomes World No. 1

Dubai: Pakistan’s 28-year-old spinner Abrar Ahmed, who was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad owner Kavya Maran for a whopping ₹2.34 crore in The Hundred auction a few months ago, had a disappointing campaign in the tournament. However, he has now reached the pinnacle of the ICC T20 rankings, becoming the world’s No. 1 bowler for the first time. India’s Ishan Kishan is currently the world’s No. 1 batter in the T20 rankings.

A leg-break googly specialist, Abrar Ahmed took only four wickets in eight matches in The Hundred. Kavya Maran had bought him for ₹2.34 crore at the auction for the Sunrisers Leeds team. Her decision to spend such a big amount on Abrar had sparked considerable debate at the time. After Abrar managed only four wickets, there was widespread discussion among cricket fans that Kavya Maran’s franchise had effectively wasted ₹2.34 crore.

In the latest ICC Men’s T20 rankings, Abrar has now become the world’s No. 1 bowler. He has replaced Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan at the top of the rankings.

In the most recent T20 World Cup, Abrar took only six wickets in five matches. His most notable performance came against Sri Lanka, when he claimed three wickets. However, he had a completely disappointing outing against India in the Colombo match on February 15. He went wicketless while conceding 38 runs, as India won the match by 61 runs.
