Shafali’s Fifty, Then Harman, Richa and Deepti’s Big Hits: India Set Bangladesh a 150-Run Target

Dubai: India lost three wickets in the final 10 balls of their Women’s T20 Asia Cup semi-final against Bangladesh, but still managed to score 21 runs in those deliveries to finish their innings at a respectable 6/149. After opener Shafali Verma’s half-century, captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Richa Ghosh and Deepti Sharma also produced some aggressive batting.

Nigar Sultana’s Bangladesh batters will now have to face a stern test against India’s effective bowling attack as they chase a target of 150 runs. India are the defending champions and remain favourites to lift the trophy again this year.

Shafali Verma (64 off 40 balls, three sixes and seven fours) was the star batter in India’s innings. However, wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh (21 off 16 balls, two sixes), who stitched together small partnerships with captain Harmanpreet Kaur (24 not out off 28 balls, two sixes) towards the end, and all-rounder Deepti Sharma (13 off six balls, one six and one four) also played attacking shots to somewhat spoil Bangladesh’s bowlers’ hard work. Shafali and Pratika Rawal, who scored 20, added 50 runs for the opening wicket.

At one stage, India were 92/2, but by the end of the 20th over they had lost a total of four wickets for 57 runs. Bangladesh spinner Sultana Khatun was the most successful bowler, taking two wickets.
