Mumbai: Jason Sanjay, son of actor turned politician Vijay, is all set to make his directorial debut with Sigma. But before stepping behind the camera for his first feature film, there was one person he wanted to share the big news with first his mother.
Speaking at a pre release event in Salem, Jason revealed that he called his mom immediately after signing Sigma. He also spoke about the nervousness he felt while shooting his first scene and the lessons he has picked up along the way.
Jason admitted that he was quite nervous when he began filming. However, the tension did not last long. Once he completed the first take, he started feeling more comfortable and was able to focus on the work.
For someone making his first feature film, Jason has a simple message for youngsters who want to become filmmakers. According to him, the best way to learn is to keep making films, especially short films, while also writing and practising as much as possible.
His interest in filmmaking goes back several years. Jason made his first short film, Pull The Trigger, in 2022. He has also spoken about how watching films influenced his decision to become a director. In particular, the Brazilian crime drama City of God left a strong impression on him and made him seriously think about filmmaking as a career.
Interestingly, Jason’s connection with cinema began when he was very young. He recalled watching his father Vijay’s Thirumalai in a theatre when he was just three years old.
Jason also revealed that Thamilkumaran was the first person to watch Sigma. The film has Sundeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah in the lead, along with Raju Sundaram, Sampath Raj, Shiv Panditt, Anbu Thasan and Yog Japee.
Sigma has music by S Thaman and has been shot in locations across Tamil Nadu and Thailand. The film, which has already faced changes to its release schedule, is currently slated to hit theatres on October 2, 2026.
With Sigma, Jason Sanjay is taking his first major step into the film industry as a director. Being Vijay’s son naturally brings plenty of attention, but Jason now has the chance to prove himself with a film of his own.
