₹22,181 Crore Projects Approved for Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 Preparations

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has approved development projects worth ₹22,181 crore for preparations related to the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela in Nashik and Trimbakeshwar, according to a report by Hindustan Times. The decision was taken during a meeting of the Kumbh Mela Apex Committee chaired by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. 

The large-scale infrastructure plan is aimed at strengthening the city’s capacity to host millions of pilgrims expected to attend the religious gathering scheduled in 2027. Officials stated that the approved projects will be implemented in two phases, with the first phase involving works worth ₹5,140 crore and the second phase covering projects valued at ₹17,041 crore. 

The Simhastha Kumbh Mela, held once every 12 years, is among the largest religious gatherings in the world and draws devotees from across India and abroad. Authorities are therefore focusing on major improvements to public infrastructure and civic facilities in Nashik and the nearby temple town of Trimbakeshwar to ensure smooth management of the event.

According to Hindustan Times, the Kumbh Mela Apex Committee has been given extensive powers to take decisions regarding planning, coordination and execution of the development projects required for the festival. The committee will oversee various works aimed at improving roads, transport systems, sanitation facilities and other essential services for visitors.

Speaking about the preparations, Chief Minister Fadnavis emphasised the importance of organising the event in a way that enhances its international appeal. He noted that devotees visiting the Kumbh Mela carry back impressions of the country and the state, making it important to ensure well-planned arrangements and modern infrastructure.

Officials expect the projects to not only support the smooth conduct of the religious festival but also contribute to long-term urban development in Nashik. Infrastructure upgrades related to transportation, connectivity and civic amenities are likely to benefit residents and businesses even after the event concludes.
