CCTV Captures Theft of Lord Ganesha Idol from Bengaluru Roadside Stall

A Lord Ganesha idol displayed for sale at a roadside stall in Bengaluru was stolen early Monday morning, with the entire incident recorded on nearby CCTV cameras. The theft occurred around 3:51 am in the Dasarahalli area along Magadi Road.

Footage shows four men arriving at the location in a Tata Ace goods vehicle. The group approached the idol, lifted it carefully, and loaded it into the vehicle before driving away from the scene in a short time.

The case falls under the jurisdiction of the Magadi Road Police Station. Officers are currently reviewing the CCTV recordings as part of their investigation and are working to identify and locate the individuals involved.

The idol had been kept by the roadside for commercial sale. Such stalls are commonly set up in various parts of the city, particularly ahead of festivals, to offer religious items to devotees and buyers. The early-hour timing of the incident, when traffic and activity in the area would typically be low, allowed the group to carry out the act with limited immediate interference.

Police efforts focus on analysing the visual evidence to determine the identities of the four men and the vehicle’s details. Authorities have not yet released further information on any arrests or recoveries.

Incidents of theft involving religious idols occasionally draw public attention in the city, especially when captured on camera. In this case, the clear recording of the sequence from arrival to the loading of the idol and departure provides investigators with a detailed visual account to pursue leads.

Local residents and shopkeepers in the Magadi Road area may be asked for additional information as the probe continues. The recovery of the idol remains a priority for the investigating team.
