India-Sri Lanka First Test Disrupted By Rain After Lunch

Galle: Play could not resume after the lunch break in the first Test of the series between India and Sri Lanka, which began here today.

Rain had been forecast, and the weather has now started causing interruptions to the match.

India were 101 for one at lunch. Yashasvi Jaiswal was run out for 32 following a mix-up with vice-captain KL Rahul.

KL Rahul was batting on 32, while Devdutt Padikkal was unbeaten on 35. India had lost Jaiswal’s wicket at a total of 47 runs.

India made a good start after opting to bat, and with the team score approaching 50 in the 11th over, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (32 off 37 balls, five fours) was dismissed in a bizarre run-out.

The opening partnership between Jaiswal and vice-captain KL Rahul was gradually growing stronger when Jaiswal was run out off the final ball of the 11th over.

Rahul played a shot towards mid-on on the bowler’s right and initially set off for a run, but hesitated slightly. Jaiswal had also started running from the non-striker’s end, but lost his balance after colliding with the bowler, who had dived to stop the ball. Within seconds, both batters ended up at the non-striker’s end. Prabath Jayasuriya collected the ball and threw it towards wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella, who dislodged the bails after a slight fumble. Unfortunately for Jaiswal, he had to walk back to the pavilion.
