Injured Sai Sudarshan Replaced By Sarfaraz Khan For SL Tests

Sai Sudharsan will be replaced by Sarfaraz Khan in the two-match Test series in Sri Lanka. Before the team departs for Galle for the first Test, which begins on August 15, he is scheduled to join the squad.Sarfaraz has represented India in six Test matches; the most recent one was during the home series against New Zealand in 2024.

He has one century and three fifties in 11 innings. The call-up follows another strong Ranji Trophy season in 2025–2026, in which he averaged 53.62 while scoring 429 runs from nine innings.

Sarfaraz was also included in the West Zone team for the Duleep Trophy, which takes place from August 23 to September 10. A portion of this team will play in the Sri Lanka Tests, which take place from August 7 to August 27. He was initially included in the squad, but an injury kept him out of the previous edition. Sarfaraz has also not participated in professional cricket since playing for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League in April of this year.

Devdutt Padikkal looks to be the front-runner to bat at No. 3 with Sudharsan out due to injury, especially after his outstanding century in the practice match against SLC XI.

Sudharsan, who is presently at the Center of Excellence in Bengaluru following a right toe stress response, has made considerable progress in his recuperation, according to a BCCI statement.

Updated India squad: Shubman Gill (C), KL Rahul (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, Devdutt Padikkal, Saransh Jain, Auqib Nabi, Sarfaraz Khan
