Patna : A 25-year-old woman was allegedly killed with an axe by her younger brother-in-law following a dispute over a delay in serving food in Imadpur village under Parsa Bigha police station in Bihar’s Jehanabad district on Tuesday. The victim, identified as Anshu Devi, wife of Dharmendra Kumar, was allegedly attacked by her brother-in-law Kunal Kumar while she was alone at home. Kunal returned from work and asked for food.
An argument reportedly broke out after the meal was served late, following which he allegedly attacked Anshu with a sharp-edged weapon. In a gruesome turn of events, the accused allegedly severed the woman’s head and hung it from a banyan tree near his house. Villagers later spotted the severed head while passing through the outskirts of the village and alerted the police.
A team from Parsa Bigha police station reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. Police subsequently arrested Kunal from the village and seized the weapon suspected to have been used in the killing. He remains in custody and is being questioned.
Parsa Bigha SHO Sarv Narayan said the exact motive behind the killing was still being investigated.“Prima facie, it appears that the accused attacked his sister-in-law following a dispute after food was served late. However, we are probing all angles to establish the exact reason,” the officer said. The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Anshu Devi, wife of Dharmendra Kumar, a resident of Imadpur village.
According to villagers, the accused, Kunal Kumar, is a drug addict. Villagers reported that Anshu Devi was alone at home at the time of the incident, while her family members had gone to the fields. Kumar arrived home from the fields and asked for food. Enraged by the delay in serving food, he grabbed an axe and attacked his sister-in-law. When villagers learned of this gruesome murder, a large crowd gathered at the scene. They reported the crime to the police.
