New Delhi : The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has indicated that talks with the Centre may be moving in a positive direction after spokesperson Saurav Das said government representatives shared draft notifications outlining key assurances. These include the withdrawal of FIRs, the release of detained protesters, and protection from future police action against those involved in the anti-NEET paper leak demonstrations.
The announcement came only hours after the two-month-old political outfit warned it would restart its agitation and organize nationwide protests, accusing the BJP-led government of failing to implement promises made when the 49-day protest ended following Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation on July 25.
According to the CJP, the agreement reached at the time included withdrawing all FIRs registered by the Centre and BJP/NDA-ruled states against protesters and organizers, ensuring no further legal action against participants, providing compensation to the families of students who died by suicide in connection with the NEET paper leak controversy, and considering the party’s five-point proposal for examination reforms.
In a post on X on Monday night, Das said government officials met CJP leaders shortly after a press conference and held discussions for nearly three hours. During the meeting, they reportedly shared draft notifications from the Bihar and Assam governments confirming the withdrawal of FIRs, the release of detainees and arrested individuals, and assurances against future action.
Das further stated that officials assured the party that similar notifications from the Union government and other BJP/NDA-governed states would be issued by Tuesday. He expressed hope that the final notifications would reflect the language agreed upon during the negotiations. Reaffirming the party’s support for protesters, Das wrote, “No protester will be left alone. We are all in this together!”
Earlier the same day, the CJP, accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP and senior advocate Kapil Sibal, alleged that authorities had continued taking action against protesters despite the July 25 understanding. The party claimed that students were still being arrested and volunteers faced surveillance and harassment, accusing the government of not fulfilling its commitments.
Das had warned during the press conference that unless the Centre provided written confirmation of the July 25 agreement by Tuesday, the party would have no option but to resume its protest movement. The latest developments come just four days after the CJP called off its 36-day nationwide campaign against the NEET paper leak after the Centre accepted several of the protesters’ demands, including the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
