IPL 2025: Delhi Capitals Clinch Thrilling Super Over Win Against Royals

In a high-octane IPL clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, the Delhi Capitals edged past Rajasthan Royals in a Super Over after both teams ended their innings tied at 188 runs.

Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson chose to bowl first after winning the toss. Both sides fielded unchanged lineups for the match.

Delhi’s innings began with promise as Jake Fraser-McGurk looked in good touch before falling to Jofra Archer. Abhishek Porel launched a fierce attack against Tushar Deshpande. However, Karun Nair was run out by Sandeep Sharma, prompting KL Rahul to step in. Rahul and Porel added 50 runs off 44 balls to stabilize the innings.

Archer struck again to remove KL Rahul, with Shimron Hetmyer taking a clean catch. Porel was dismissed on 49 by Wanindu Hasaranga, caught by Riyan Parag. Axar Patel added quick runs before falling to Maheesh Theekshana. The innings wrapped up with power hitting from Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh Sharma.

In reply, Rajasthan Royals stayed in the chase thanks to half-centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Nitish Rana. However, a tight over from Mitchell Starc towards the end brought Delhi back into the contest, leading to a Super Over.

Super Over Drama

Rajasthan sent in Shimron Hetmyer and Riyan Parag to bat first in the tie-breaker, with Starc handling bowling duties for Delhi. After a dot ball, Hetmyer hit a boundary. A no-ball helped RR gather momentum, and Parag followed with another four. However, Delhi regained control with back-to-back runouts — first Parag, then Jaiswal — ending the Super Over at 11/2 in 0.5 overs.

Delhi needed 12 runs in 6 balls and delivered in style. KL Rahul opened with two runs and a four off Sandeep Sharma. After rotating strike, Tristan Stubbs sealed the victory with a massive six, taking DC to 13/0 in just 0.4 overs and securing their 10th point of the season.

Last Super Over In IPL

It has been four years that a match has ended in a tie in the Indian Premier League. The last time this happened was in the 20th match of the IPL 2021. The match was between the Delhi Capitals and the Sunrisers Hyderabad in Chennai.

Both the teams scored 159 runs in that game at the end of their 20 overs. However, the Delhi Capitals managed to win the match in the Super Over.
