The Mumbai Police have filed a formal complaint against the organizers on allegations of unlawful assembly and planning the rally without authorization, officials said on Monday. The protest was joined by Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray in the Shivaji Park area. According to an officer, four further FIRs have been filed in relation to other protests in Mumbai that were purportedly organized and staged without authorization throughout the previous two days.
Police have also taken action in response to a protest that was purportedly organized without authorization on Monday at Chaityabhoomi, the cremation site of B.R. Ambedkar in Dadar.
Several demonstrators were arrested as a result of the Chaityabhoomi demonstration, which was organized in support of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and activist Sonam Wangchuk’s “Sansad Chalo” march.
“PWP, CPI (M), and CJP supporters were not allowed to enter Chaityabhoomi. The Shivaji Park police station is currently registering a case against the participants, according to a senior official. Thackeray spoke during a demonstration on Sunday at Shivaji Park against the transfer of fasting campaigner Sonam Wangchuk from the Delhi Jantar Mantar protest site to Safdarjung Hospital. Thackeray had demanded a more widespread uprising against the Center. Two of the five FIRs were filed on Saturday at the Marine Drive and Azad Maidan police stations in relation to a protest that was held close to Mantralaya, while another was filed against Left Party organizations for holding demonstrations close to the Press Club.
In relation to the protests, three additional FIRs were filed at the Shivaji Park police station on Sunday.
According to authorities, the suspects in each case have been charged with wrongful restraint, unlawful assembly, and disobedience to an order legally issued by a public worker, among other offenses.
Officials said that all those listed in the FIRs received notices and were permitted to go.
Mumbai Police earlier on Monday issued prohibitory orders prohibiting gatherings of five or more people in public areas from July 23 to August 6. According to officials, the action was taken because of concerns about a breach of peace and disruption of public peace.
Additionally, the order forbids musical bands, processions, the use of loudspeakers and amplifying devices, and the bursting of crackers.
According to the order, information gathered from a variety of sources suggested that there was a risk of disrupting public order, endangering human life, and causing property damage, necessitating the implementation of preventive measures.
