EV Charging Suspected Behind Deadly Noida Building Fire That Claimed Two Lives

Noida: Two people lost their lives after a fire ripped through a residential building in Noida’s Phase 3 area on Wednesday. Police said the blaze is suspected to have started from sparks generated while an electric vehicle (EV) was being charged on the ground floor.

The fire spread quickly, filling the building with thick smoke and trapping several residents. Firefighters and police teams rushed to the scene and evacuated those inside, but two people could not be saved. They were later declared dead.

Officials said multiple fire tenders were pressed into service to contain the blaze, which was eventually brought under control after a prolonged operation. The building suffered significant damage, while nearby residents were moved to safety as a precaution.

According to police, the initial investigation points to an electrical spark during EV charging as the likely source of the fire. However, authorities have stressed that the exact cause will be confirmed only after the forensic examination and the fire department’s detailed investigation are completed.

Investigators are also examining whether the building had adequate fire safety measures in place and whether the electrical setup used for charging the vehicle complied with safety standards. If any lapses are found, appropriate legal action will be taken, officials said.

The identities of the victims have not yet been officially disclosed, as authorities are in the process of informing their families. Their bodies have been sent for post mortem examination.

The incident has once again brought attention to fire safety in residential buildings, particularly as electric vehicles become increasingly common. Safety experts advise EV owners to use certified chargers, avoid makeshift electrical connections and ensure that charging points are installed by qualified professionals to reduce the risk of electrical fires.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, and more details are expected once forensic experts and the fire department submit their reports.
