Akhilesh Yadav Slams UP Government Over Chambal Mining Scandal

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday accused the Uttar Pradesh government under Chief Minister Adityanath of enabling widespread illegal mining in the Chambal ravines of Etawah, alleging that entire hills have vanished due to environmental exploitation.
In a sharp critique posted on X, Yadav questioned whether the hills surrounding the historic Sumer Singh Fort had been illicitly “relocated” to areas like Basti and Gorakhpur through corrupt practices involving officials at various levels. He accompanied his post with a video showing a significantly altered landscape, where hills appeared to have been leveled.
“New officials may come and go,” Yadav stated, “but what about the Chambal hills erased by corruption’s tools and divided through shady deals? How will they be restored?” The former UP chief minister also took a swipe at the ruling party, declaring, “The environment today says: we don’t need the BJP!”
