Maharashtra TET Paper Leak : Three Arrested As Probe Points To Larger Interstate Exam Fraud Network

Mumbai: The alleged leak of the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) question paper has triggered a major police investigation, with three people arrested and authorities suspecting the involvement of a wider interstate examination fraud racket. The controversy forced the Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE) to postpone the TET scheduled for June 28, leaving more than six lakh candidate in uncertainity.

According to the investigators, the suspects were apprehended in the Bhiwandi area of Thane district after police recieved specific sperations, officials reportedly recovered question papers that matched portions of the official TET examination, prompting the immediate postponement of the exam to protect its integrity.

Police have told the court that the investigation is expanding beyond Maharashtra, with preliminary findings indicating links to an organised interstate network involved in leaking recruitement and competitive examination papers. A Bhiwandi court has remanded the three accused to police custody until July 6 to allow investigators to trace the network, identity additional suspects and examine the money trail.

Investigators also believe the accused planned to sell the leaked paper for nearly ₹1.5 crore. Officials have not ruled out further arrests as they continue to analyse digital evidence, financial transactions and communication records seized during the operation.

The cancellation has dealt a significant blow to more than six lakh teacher aspirants across Maharashtra, many of whom had travelled to examination centres after months of preparation. The MSCE has said that a fresh examination date will be announced once the investigation is completed and the security of the examination process can be ensured. Candidates are expected to receive fresh admit cards for the rescheduled test.

The incident has also sparked a political storm, with opposition parties accusing the state government of failing to safeguard the integrity of public examinations. They have demanded stricter accountability and stronger mechanisms to prevent recurring paper leak incidents that affect thousands of students and job aspirants.

The Maharashtra TET serves as a mandatory eligibility examination for candidates seeking teaching positions in primary and upper primary schools across the state. As the investigation continues, authorities are focusing on identifying the alleged masterminds behind the operation and determining whether similar networks have compromised other competitive examinations.

With the probe now widening beyond state borders, the Maharashtra TET paper leak has once again highlighted the growing challenge of organised examination fraud in India and renewed calls for tougher safeguards to protect the credibility of recruitment and eligibility tests.
