Huge Crowds Join Funeral Procession of Surat’s Sunny Patel, Who Lost His Life in Qatar Blast; Entire Bhimpor Plunged Into Grief

Surat: The mortal remains of Surat’s Sunny Patel, who had gone to Qatar just seven months ago to earn a livelihood and secure a brighter future for his family, were flown back to his homeland. Sunny died in an explosion at a gas plant in Qatar. With the assistance of the Indian Embassy, his body was brought via Ahmedabad airport to his native village of Bhimpor, near Dumas in Surat. The moment it arrived, the wails of grieving family members left the entire area in mourning. Thousands of people, their eyes filled with tears, joined Sunny’s funeral procession.
Sunny, reported missing after the blast, found dead in hospital
According to reports, in the immediate aftermath of the devastating blast at the gas plant in Qatar, Sunny Patel was initially reported missing. However, during an investigation carried out by local authorities, his body was located. Sunny’s brother, Ravi Patel, who also lives in Qatar, went to the hospital and identified his brother’s body. Once the identification process was completed, news of Sunny’s death reached his family in Surat, leaving them devastated.
Given his family’s weak financial condition, Sunny had decided to go abroad to lift them out of hardship and secure a better future for the household. Just seven months ago, he had left Surat for a job in Qatar, filled with hope. For the very home and family he was toiling day and night across the seven seas to make happy, his lifeless body, wrapped in a shroud, has now had to be brought back to that same home a cruel twist of fate.
Thousands pay tribute
Today (June 27), Sunny Patel’s body was kept at his residence in Bhimpor for a final viewing. Known for his warm and affable nature, news of his death drew large numbers of villagers, relatives and people from the surrounding area, who gathered to pay their last respects. Every person present at the viewing had tears in their eyes. Sunny’s funeral procession was then carried out with heavy hearts, with thousands joining to bid the young man a tearful farewell
