Mumbai: A 22-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death inside a moving Mumbai local train following an argument over shutting the coach door during heavy rain, police said.
The victim, identified as Mayank Lohar, was travelling in the first-class compartment of a Churchgate-Nallasopara fast local on Tuesday night when he got into a dispute with a fellow passenger between Andheri and Borivali stations. According to officials, the argument escalated and the accused allegedly stabbed Lohar in the abdomen.
The train pulled into Borivali station at around 11:04 pm, where the accused fled before it came to a complete stop. Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel reached the coach within minutes of the train’s arrival and found Lohar seriously injured.

He was given a stretcher and immediate medical assistance, and was first taken to the Emergency Medical Room at Borivali station before being shifted to Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali. He later succumbed to his injuries.

Western Railway officials said CCTV footage and other evidence have been collected and handed over to investigating agencies, with senior officers monitoring the situation through the night.
“The priority was to ensure the injured passenger received immediate medical assistance,” said Vineet Abhishek, chief public relations officer, Western Railway.
The GRP has launched a search for the accused, who remains absconding. Investigators are scanning CCTV footage and questioning passengers who were present in the coach at the time of the incident.
