Bhopal Court Remands Twisha Sharma’s Husband and Mother-in-Law to CBI Custody in High-Profile Death Case

In a significant development in the Twisha Sharma death case, a Bhopal court on Friday, May 29, 2026, ordered prime accused Samarth Singh and his mother, Giribala Singh, into the custody of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for five days, until June 2.

The agency intends to thoroughly question the mother-son duo and scrutinize their statements, particularly regarding the circumstances surrounding Twisha Sharma’s death. Both individuals were produced before the district court in Bhopal by the CBI earlier in the day.

The move comes amid intensifying scrutiny into allegations of dowry harassment linked to Twisha’s death. On May 28, the CBI arrested retired district judge Giribala Singh, Twisha’s mother-in-law, a day after the Madhya Pradesh High Court turned down the anticipatory bail previously granted to her by a lower court on May 15.

Agency officials had questioned Ms. Singh for approximately six hours at her Bhopal residence before taking her into custody. CBI officers also conducted a detailed investigation at the property, including a crime scene recreation, according to the agency’s Chief Information Officer Beena Yadav.

Samarth Singh, Twisha’s husband, was taken into custody on May 23. The Madhya Pradesh government had recommended a CBI probe into the case on the same day, following which the central agency assumed control of the investigation.

The case has drawn considerable public attention, with Twisha’s family bidding an emotional farewell to her 12 days after her death. A second autopsy was also performed on her body by a specialised team from AIIMS Delhi, as directed by the Madhya Pradesh Court.

The CBI’s involvement marks a major shift in the probe, aimed at ensuring a thorough and impartial examination of all aspects of the case. As the investigation progresses, authorities continue to piece together events leading to the young woman’s untimely death.
