Dapoli Clash: 9 Detained After Violence Between Two Groups In Harnai

Dapoli: Tension prevailed in Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri district after a violent clash broke out between two groups near Goa Fort in Harnai village of Dapoli taluka. According to a report by Free Press Journal, police detained nine youths and deployed additional security personnel in the region to prevent further unrest.

Clash Near Goa Fort Triggers Tension

As reported by Free Press Journal, unrest erupted in Harnai on Wednesday night after an altercation between two groups turned violent near the historic Goa Fort area. Police officials said the incident allegedly began after a local Hindu youth objected to some youngsters reportedly consuming alcohol and smoking near the fort premises.

The disagreement allegedly escalated further the following day, resulting in a violent confrontation between the groups.

Two Youths Seriously Injured

According to preliminary information cited by Free Press Journal and ESakal, two youths identified as Chinmay Gurav and Raghuveer were allegedly attacked by a mob comprising around 40 to 50 individuals on Wednesday evening.

Both sustained serious injuries in the assault. Reports stated that one victim suffered a fractured hand, while the other received severe injuries and is currently undergoing medical treatment.

Protest Erupts In Dapoli

Following the incident, tension spread across Dapoli town as local residents gathered late at night at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Chowk demanding immediate police action against those responsible for the attack.

Protesters also staged a brief road blockade, causing temporary disruption to vehicular movement in parts of the town.

Police Detain 9, Security Tightened

Police personnel rushed to the area and brought the situation under control. Authorities confirmed that nine youths have been detained so far in connection with the clash.

Additional police force has been deployed in both Harnai and Dapoli as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order. Officials were also in the process of registering an FIR related to the incident.

Administration Appeals For Peace

The administration urged residents not to circulate rumours or inflammatory content on social media. Officials appealed to citizens to maintain peace as police continue monitoring the situation closely in the sensitive coastal region.
